I read the book a few years ago and the movie turned out to be equally good as the book. It's incredible how he makes a mafia don, the most lovable character in the movie. If The Godfather Vito Corleone existed in real life we would have hated him, but Mario Puzo gives an inside view on Godfather's life - that's the beauty of the characterization.
You realise, despite of being a don, you like him. Because he's a good human being who breaks out of the society's norms and lives life on his own terms. He won't deal in drugs and indulge in any harmful activities. He won't kill any innocent people, but at the same time he won't hesitate to kill a few Tatagillas or any other swines who pose a threat to the mankind. And you don't feel sorry for such swines.
Marlon Brando plays the Godfather to perfection. Al Pacino and Robert Duvall are riveting. Godfather is cinema's masterpiece. |
