This is the only war movie that does not bore me. The movie has two parts. The first half is set in a Marine training camp. It must earn you great laugh because the dialog and the songs are full of creativity while it ends up with a big bang in your brain. It takes a U-turn in the audience¡¯s mind and it is thought-provoking. People¡¯s killer instinct is trained. So is people¡¯s hostility which kills.
The second half of the movie is set in Vietnam. We saw some heroism out of the cause of brotherhood, no cause other than that. However the heroism has to end up with a tough choice of killing a female sniper who killed two fellows to end her pain. Private joker, our narrator who walks us through the whole movie, did it and the only thing he feels blessed about the war is that he is still alive.
Yeah, we should feel blessed if we are still alive, regardless of all the mistaking scene we run into, all the pain, right or wrong, we go through. We can be insightful but we cannot escape inevitability when we are so minor however we should still feel blessed for the mere fact that we are still alive. Living earns its own ode. |
