This is probably Stanley Kubrick at his best since "A Clockwork Orange", "2001: A Space Odyssey" and "Dr. Strangelove". The film is not an anti-war neither a warhawk film. The film is about the de-humanization of human character and morality. We follow one recruit private joker through his odyssey of reasons to be in war and reasons why not. The film hooks us into joker early on, BUT not before R. Lee Emery gets through us first.
His Performance is what makes the movie outstanding, Kubrick also pulls on our heart strings for a portly young man named Piles. I have always found Kubricks films incredible and for whomever sees this movie (as well as the others that I just mentioned) you'd agree with me. "Full Metal Jacket" has awesome cinematography and the editting is also pretty outstanding. The Gaffer did an awesome job using HML's and Arri Lights.
This is the best war film you'll ever seen since "Black Hawk Down". |
