A Movie Decades Ahead of Its Time

Although at first glance this film may seem dated (it was released in 1932 in black and white) and may initially not appeal to the person used to macho action storylines it grows on you if you have any patience at all.
Action centers around a troupe of "freaks" who work in a circus. Needless to say the title is stuck on them by the "normal" performers and the viewing public. By the end of the film we begin to wonder who the "freaks" really are.
If you browse most of the other reviews you'll find that people's opinions of those they consider repulsive hasn't changed at all since the 1930's. Note the review titles: Most of them list this as a horror show. Consequently this movie has a timeless appeal. Whether we like to think so or not our prejudices are still there.
The circus performers (the "freaks") are treated very lovingly by the director and come across as just people with physical differences. Inside they are the same as ourselves.
Warning: This film is not recommended for most Bush supporters.
