A masterpiece of both horror and sci-fi

This remake of the 1958 film of the same name (Both are based, this one more loosely than the other, on George Langelann's short story) is a rarity in that it is a remake that is better than the original
Jeff Goldblum gives a oscar worthy performance as Seth Brundle, same goes for Geena Davis as Veronica, they display something that was missing from horror films during the 80's, which is actual acting, and sadly, due to the Oscar's not qualifying horror films at the time, this movie could have easily won a Best Director statuette for David Cronenberg
This film manages to be creepy, touching, disturbing, scary, and disgusting, something that is rare for a film in the horror genre, I definitely recommend The Fly, it is not only one of the best horror films of the 80's or of all time, but one of the best movies ever made, period. |
