A Thoroughly Enjoyable Movie

Although the two later bigger budget Sergio Leone "Man With No Name" movies are often rated more highly, I liked this one the most. Eastwood's performance is suberb. The one weakness of Leone's movies, scenes that drag on unnecessarily, is not in evidence in this one - the pace of events is faster than in his later westerns. His brilliance as a director is very much in evidence here, with subtle dark humor, appropriate music at the right times, and dramatic confrontations.
This movie is better than Hang'Em High and all of the other Clint Eastwood American made westerns, except for his best film, Unforgiven.
