A truely classic film that stands the test of time, this wonderful tale about Russian Jews set at the start of the Russian revolution of 1918 is a perfectly acted and executed period piece. The many interweaving storylines have as much to say today as they did when this movie was produced in the late 60's. It does stretch a little long near the end, so you might want to steel yourself (about as long as Titantic and Lord of the Rings) but the payoff is a wonderful little movie. Very G rated, wholesome family entertainment that also brings up very big issues like tradition and loyalty to family. Get the DVD with extras: The 'making of' story is very insightful and the commentary is also delightful as well. |
