How a soundtrack and wide-angle lense save the day

I first saw this film at it's release in 1969. It was fantastic...at the time.

Last week I saw it again for the first time in 38 years and my thoughts were: "what was I smoking ?" By most conventional measures, this movie stinks. This script is terrible, the acting is terrible, and directing is no better.
So what is it that keeps us coming back....

Easy Rider is a window to an era. An era when young people dared to live free, challanged the establishment, and tasted life in a wholly new way. Easy Rider is a celluloid time capsule of that movement. Unfortunately it was also a rather low budget effort. Without the period soundtrack and natural scenery, there wasn't much else there - stilted dialogue, amaturish cutscenes and fades, gaudy wardrobe, etc.

But no one forgets the soundtrack and no one forgets the prejudice. Both have become scars in the minds of the people who lived in that time and for that reason when you make your next movie, don't forget the soundtrack and your wide-angle lens.
