ALMOST UNIMAGINABLE
by PO'D (movies profile) Oct 10, 2006
This brilliant, brave, and outstanding TV Movie came out in 1985, when Reagan had yet to mention the word AIDS. There are scenes in this film that are nearly impossible to conceive, yet no actions, no matter how severe or homophobic are stretched beyond the actual truth of how people--intelligent or otherwise--reacted to people with AIDS. The cast is excellent, and Gena Rowlands is wonderful as the sympathetic mother of Aiden Quinn, who has contracted AIDS. This movie may seem dated, but rest assured, as someone who lived through these difficult times, it is resoundingly important and ought to be required viewing for educational purposes. And yes, you ought to be ashamed of yourself if you behaved like some of the hideously offensive characters in this film and shunned a loved one because they were "sick".
