The High Life Indeed
by Arthur (movies profile)
May 6, 2007
Can't say enough about La Dolce Vita and though it is epic, I can imagine seeing this film more than once!! Marcello is a Journalist working the Gossip Beat for a large Italian Newspaper, he is constantly surrounded by beautiful women, Media Personalities (actors, crews, the Society Crowd, etc.), and his ambievalence to it all.
Fellini captures a world of people who live in the moment and then figure out what to do for kicks after that!! The photography, cast, and story are larger than life, and I could not take it all in one sitting ( it is close to 3hrs ). It is in Italian with subtitles and a very small smattering of English.
The film is 1960 or 61 but feels like it is happening now, because it is. The term Paparrazi was coined from one of Marcello's Photogs who run like a pack of hyenas to any hint of action, positive or negative. The musical score is outragous, the scenes with Nico, Anita Ekberg, Lex Barker are priceless. |
