Every time I see it, I see something new

I've watched this over 20 times. I saw it for the first time when I was 12 when they re-released it in theatres (in the days before video!). And somehow, even though I didn't understand a lot of what was going on, I was still mesmerized by this over 3 hour long epic. The magic continues, and every time I watch it, I try to will Yuri to not go into Yuriatin, to stay at the dacha with his pregnant wife, but of course, every time he goes to Lara and he almost loses everything. The scenery is as much a part of the story as the people...the train stretching across the plains heading to the country, the masses of daffodils in the meadows, the ice-encrusted dacha in the Urals, the finery and excess of the rich dancing the night away while the workers march in the streets. And the score is excellent as well. I think I need to watch it again this weekend! |
