Lizabeth Scott is stunning! Humphrey Bogart is a former serviceman returning from the war, who tries to investigate the sudden disappearance of a friend, a decorated war veteran. He arrives in the man's hometown to find his friend's corpse in the city morgue, burnt almost beyond recognition.
As Bogart searches for answers, he finds himself up against the ruthless leader of a criminal syndicate that operates a nightclub and casino.
The crime boss appears willing to commit murder to prevent a previous crime from being solved.
A well made film from Columbia, but not as well known as Bogart's work for Warner Brothers. |
