A Good and Creepy Anthology
by Mclovin (movies profile)
Feb 29, 2008
Anthologies are usually mixed bag movies and this one is no exception. Some of the stories have aged horribly though. One of the special effects at the end, that is supposed to be chilling ends up being cheesy and laughable. Other then some of the stories aging, this movie stands up to and even rises above some modern anthology movies.
Five stories are connected by a wraparound story:
RACER'S TALE: A man involved in a near fatal car crash while racing has a premonition. This story is simple and has been told many times before but this is a good telling.
My Grade: B-
SCHOOL GIRL'S TALE: A girl has a ghostly encounter during a game of hide and seek. I thought this story was dumb and pointless. It probably should've been left out.
My Grade: C
WIFE'S TALE: A wife buys her husband a mirror that slowly is pushing the husband over the edge. This story goes on a bit too long but it's an improvement over the previous two.
My Grade: B
GOLFER'S TALE: Two rival golfer's bet their life's on a golf game for a woman who equally loves them both. This story isn't scary but it has an enjoyable dark but funny sense of humor.
My Grade: B+
DOCTOR'S TALE: A man encounters a ventriloquist who seems to believe that his dummy is alive. This was the best out of all the short stories.
My Grade: B+
Wraparound Story: The story that connects all of these little stories seems a little dull until the disturbing and creepy twist ending.
My Grade: A-
Overall, this is a good but not great anthology movie. TALES FROM THE CRYPT, VAULT OF HORROR, and CREEPSHOW are all better then this. If you can find it this is worth watching.
