This movie will go down in history as one of the most innovative (and time consumming) movies of all time. Henson pulled something completely original out of his head and set it down as a permenant mark on the cinematic industry.
Nothing compares with this movie. Not even Labrynth, which is my all-time, top of the list, favorite movie. It is NOT better than Labrynth, because Labrynth would not have been possible if it wasn't for this movie. The Dark Crystal was first and allowed Henson and his crew to develop the idea of telling fantasy stories with completely created characters. It made Labrynth possible.
If you are a parent looking for a good movie past Barney and Barbies that makes your kids think about things like equality and justice and shouldering responsibility without being drab then this is the best movie to do that. If you are older and just want to look into something a little different, something you may have missed the first time around then this is the movie. This is truly a great movie and appeals to the widest of all possible audiences. A must see for adults and kids alike. |
