Dangerous Liaisons is a beautiful film, the costume, art direction, and makeup all should have won Oscars and are wonderful. Yet the story is weak in very many places, it is also very commonly used and filled with clinches, it could have ducked and rolled missing many of them, and their for worked out fairly well, but it doesn't even try that. The screenplay is as I kinda said horrible at avoiding clinches, yet is filled with good dialogue, this surprised me, maybe the screenplay should have been written by two writers. The acting is amazing, John Malkovich is my favorite actor, and he is extremely good in this film, as is Michelle Pfeiffer, and surprisingly Keanu Reeves, Uma Thurman, and the supreemly overrated Glenn Close also turn in good performances. The direction is decent, I belive it is part of the reason that the performances are so good, but her could have helped with the screenplay a bit. The visuals are okay, but it's the art direction and stuff that is amazing. |
