A lame sequel to a classic film.

I don't know why, but I saw the first and third long before actually seeing this one, but either way it looks like I should have stayed away, because it's pretty much a waste. There are interesting parts, but it's basically just rehashing the first. What's a big mystery is why Damien seems to be more conscious of his evil-doings in the first movie, while in this movie he's older, but played out like he's innocent and has no idea what's going on.
The story continues after the events of the first. Some years have passed and Damien is older and becoming a normal mischievous young teen. He's forced to go to military school after getting into some trouble with his "parents" and the school is where he meets Lance Henriksen's character as the Master Sergeant, who is also a minion of Damien’s, although he doesn't realize it. The movie pretty much goes through the same formula as the first, where someone attempts to dig up the truth behind Damien only to get them killed before revealing the info. This time most of the dirty work is done by crows(?) The fact that crows are used makes sense since they are normally associated with death, but since they are basically the only tool against those against Damien, it got a little tedious. It would have made more sense if it were some killer crow movie in my opinion.
The movie does manage to have some decent moments, like a couple good deaths (it seems like there’s gotta be at least one gory death in all the Omen movies), but I found the movie to be an overall bore. Damien managed to be a creepy young child in the first, while in this movie he's just an innocent and confused young punk.
OVERALL
A lame sequel to a classic film. The Damien character successfully managed to be less scary as he grew older. Worth a check if you're a fan of the original, but not worth otherwise. |
