Almost, almost perfect.

The eternally near-drunk Peter O'toole finally finds a character that deserves his acting, and surrounded by a solid if uninspired cast, manages to pull off a great story that could easily have been mangled. He is a possibly-mad scientist looking for his dead wife in the Big Picture, and by the time he finds her, he's ready to let her go. Happily, his new protege and his nymphomaniac assistant are there to catch him... and in the end, everybody hugs and kisses in the desolate fields of U.C. Santa Cruz's north campus. It's not perfect, but you'll walk away practicing your sob's and will be HUMPH!ing for weeks. |
