We all knew Steven Spielberg had talent from films like, Indiana Jones, E.T., and Saving Private Ryan, but this movie is why I believe Steven Spielberg to be the greatest director of our time. It's a masterpiece that will never lose it's touch for as long as we are alive. A classic that can be compared to films such as Gone With the Wind and The Godfather.

The story revolves around Celie (Whoopi Goldberg), who's trials have been tested by abuse, humiliation, and two pregnancies by the man she called her Pa. Her children are taken away from her, and all she can do is call herself a poor black girl who's married into the home of cruel ol' Mister (Danny Glover).

The only person she has to love is her sister Nettie (Akosua Busia) who came to live with Mister and Celie because their dad was trying to have his way with her. However, Nettie isn't safe in that home either, where Mister wants his way with Nettie as well.

Nettie and Celie are seperated soon after once Nettie fights with Mister to protect herself from doing his business. The seperation is one of the most powerful scenes in any movie ever made, never failing to bring tears to my eyes or a broken feeling in my heart.

Celie is shot down, her future is strained. Nothing to look forward to besides the rotting of her soul in the house full of spoiled children and endless chores. That is until the almighty and talented Shug Avery (Margaret Avery) comes to stay with Mister.

Celie soon bonds with Shug to create a friendship that is so uniting it fills her heart with that same feeling she felt with her sister. She feels a strength that is so alien it brings a smile to her face, which no one has ever seen because her hands were always obstructing the view.

This movie is a powerful film that will warm your heart and choke you up at the same time. The only movie that I think is absolutely perfect in everyway.
