In some ways this movie is unique in its telling but it follows the best understood theme of all alien movies... mystery.
Who are these aliens? What do they want? Where do they come from? None of these questions are answered but the telling is the best part of the movie.
The viewer does not ask these questions. The viewer is content to watch the story unfold, to watch a normal, everyman Neary evolve into an obsessed searcher, forsaking his family, his life, to pursue the alien mystery.
Dreyfuss is excellent as is the naive Terri Garr. Wonderful movie. |
