If you have wondered how Charlie Chaplin achieved his reputation rent "City Lights", close the drapes, turn off the phone, lock the dog in the basement, and put it on the DVD. How a black and white silent movie can create one of the big emotional punches in cinematic history without a moment of preaching or mawkishness is a lesson in film, in art, in life. Obviously one of my favorite movies. |
