I'm just now seeing this movie for the first time. I'll give you a second to laugh. Go ahead... let it all out. ;-p
The credits roll and I discover this is another Stephen King adaptation. I cringe as I haven't really been a fan of any of the movies made from King's books. I liked "Carrie" like halfway through the movie to the end. Same with "the Shining" & "Cristine". "IT" was sheer torture to watch. "Cujo" and the two "Pet Cemetary" movies I saw as a child, but though the idea behind them were pretty good, the actual movies were dull to me.
All in all, "Children of the Corn" wasn't that bad. I'm a Linda Hamilton fan, and though her character and her boyfriend were idiots (Hmmmm... lets go down the back roads! Lets go look for the town that doesn't want to be found! Lets even go through the corn field! We found the town! Now lets walk through the deserted town! Woah! Kids are trying to mess tear up our car- forget leaving while we can and going back to civilization, lets SPLIT UP NOW...! *shakes head*), it was all amusing to watch. The kids were pretty creepy.
At the end it all fell apart. The kids worshiped this creature they called "He Who Walks Behind The Rows" which in the movie was what looked like the worm from "Tremors" crawling under the dirt. I was almost hoping for the Tremors worm. It wasn't. I won't tell the end, just don't expect too much for the 'Corn God's' appearence. 1984 special effects... and in a Stephen King movie. Blah.
Overall, the best Stephen King horror adaptation I've ever seen. |
