Lee Marvin personifies toughness and the tough guy genre. It is interesting that he won his only Oscar for his comedic role in Cat Ballou. I think when acting portray roles against their type, they draw more attention to thir acting ability. Jack Lemon a comedian won an Oscar for his portrayal of a dramatic role. Likewise with Tom Hanks. Jamie Foxx also started as a comedian and won an Oscar for his dramatic portrayal of Ray Charles. Charlize Theron a real beauty won for playing a monster. Denzel Washington the consumate good guy scored with his villian role in "Training Day." Acting against type is the shortest path to the podium. |
