This steamy potboiler of a mystery is an American "film noir" classic. Set in the south, everything about it is hot, especially the romance between Kathleen Turner's character and William Hurt's character. Just how "relentless" the Kathleen Turner character is only becomes clear in the last half hour of the movie. By that time, William Hurt's world collapses around him, and he is brought to his knees by the sinister charms his seductress.
The acting is superb, highlighted by the on-screen chemistry between the leading actors, and by the supporting roles of Hurt's police officer friends (including an early Ted Danson role). The plot twists are mesmerizing and the conlusion, while inevitable in hindsight, knocks the viewer for a loop.
I loved the stylized dialogue between the leading characters, like something out of a Raymond Chandler novel.
And did I mention - Kathleen Turner is hot!! |
