I read most of the other users comments and reviews, please let me put some of you in perspective, this movie came along when the best SciFi was Star Wars and Alien. It is also a movie that you have to watch a couple of times to pick up the details. Another thing is the fact that you may have seen one of 2 versions, the first from 1982 is the commercial version (Which I liked most), the second is from some years after and the widely available on DVD that is the almost-director's version, which is a little bit darker. A new DVD box with both and a third version seems to be soon to be released. The movie appeared in theaters when I was a teen, and again, believe me, it was so different in its portrayal of the effects and the the environment from all the other movies of the genre. In the other hand I read some of the mainly negative reviews and found out that the reader was expecting something out of the movie beforehand, the best to do with this is just watch it without any hopes, here the "Sci Fi" is the frame against a Police movie runs, just the medium, not the topic of the movie itself. I found it very philosophical even since the very first time I look at it. The theme, the history and the explicit reflections of the characters offer strong points of view about the life itself. Do not misunderstand me, the movie itself is not old, or new, the freshness of the way it presents its main theme is as good now than 24 years ago. But if you are hoping to see lots of CG characters this is not. In the other hand even if you hate the movie the music from Vangelis is enough to watch it and listen it over and over |
