I always considered this one the prequel to Basic Instinct for some reason, maybe it's just that Michael is called Nick in both but the characters are very alike and he plays them class as always. This is a movie worth watching though in any case, it's solid entertainment with a good story, even if not as action rich as you might expect but that it makes up in strong characters, their background stories and their realtionships between them. I'd compare it to Cradle of the Sun with Connery and Snipes but with a deeper insight into Japanese society, or so I've heard from people who have been to Japan. Ridley Scott doesn't play so much with light and atmosphere as usually but it's still visually stunning when you see Osaka first time round with the sun setting in the background. Netherless he did use the same building as Deckard's apartment from Blade Runner as mansion for a Japanese Yakuza boss, you know which I mean and I'm drifting off anyhow, watch it if you like copthrillers, highly recommendable. |
