This movie pleases on so many levels:
- conflicted, returned war hero who defends a life-embracing alternative school and its participants against the local community's bigotry, fear and bullying
- moving soundtrack which furthers the film's intentions powerfully and memorably
- panoramic cinematography of idyllic Coconino National Forest/Montezuma Castle..makes you want to visit
- humorous, yet believable Hapkido martial arts scenes that were among the era's best
- the acting is sometimes a little too earnest, but overall enjoyable
Those of a liberal bent will tend to identify and appreciate this film, while more conservative minded viewers may feel a little disturbed and threatened. It's capturing of late-sixties values is unique and rewards repeated viewing. |
