Billy Jack is a half-breed American Indian. He bears a grudge against: rednecks, bureacratic types, bigots, and people who drive SUV's. He is an indian version of Cleopatra Jones, or the other great 70's exploitation figures. He will kung-fu (or sometimes shoot) anyone who is mean or disrespectful to the local hippie schoolkids where his girlfriend works. Billy often speaks in parables-that's right parables. After he delivers a parable he usually delivers a serious ass whupping to the local bad guys. Karate chop, hi ya! The acting is pretty stiff, the script is sentimental, formulaic, and filled with cliches. But, for some reason, me and my twelve year old friends seemed to identify with Billy Jack. McLaughlin was the director and starred as Billy. His wife is the founder of the local school. |
