This movie is Bogart at his best portraying Phillip Marlowe, a world-weary and cynical private eye who's seen it all (or nearly all of it) and is as hard boiled a detective as they come.
This movie is a re-editing of the original 1944 version. If you get the chance to rent or buy the DVD make sure the 1944 version is on it, it's a better film although it does tone down some of the interaction between Bogart and Bacall. The remake doesn't follow the original book as well as the 1944 version did, but it's still worth seeing. |
