Grim, Gritty and Gratifying
by SutterGramps (movies profile)
Jul 1, 2007
This is one of the later films of the Duke, featuring his real life son Patrick as an on screen son and his youngest son Ethan as his grandson. Richard Boone is on hand as the main villain along with a great cameo by Maureen O'Hara as his estranged wife. There is a lot of bloodshed and John Wayne never holds back from the grim realities of yesteryear in his stories. It has a few slow moments as you get a sense of life on the trail, but the interchange between the Duke and other cast members makes those very watchable as well. Overall, a very watchable western and a great John Wayne movie. |
