Why I feel this movie is so great

This movie was one of my dad's favorite movies. I didn't have a clue what WWII was like. He told me that this was as close as it got. Times were troublesome for the men coming back from WWII. This focuses on three seperate characters from different branches of the military, with different views as to how they would re-enter civilian life.
