William Wyler was never better than when he directed this tale of returning veterans of WW 2 who try to adjust to their changed hometown as well as their own internal changes. Frederic March, Myrna Loy, Dana Andrews and Teresa Wright are all exceptional, as are the black and white visuals. Perhaps most interesting, over 50 years later, is what the film tells us about the way we were, and how markedly this contrasts with the way we are. |
