Disappointing
I thought the actors did a great job with a really, really stupid storyline. Robin Williams is a superstar and a naturally hillarious person, and this lame story did its best from preventing him from getting many laughs. The robot baby, the Tattoo-like Minister's sidekick, the spying on the couple from a van, and bugging their bedroom, was just plain LAME. It was like a Nickolodean plot but much, much worse.
The idea of the movie had so much potential. Think Anger Management meets Wedding Crashers. Why not just let Robin Williams talk, instead of relying on such stupid, sophomoric antics?
Remember the woman from Nanny and The Professor who now does some soap opera where she is a witch with little children apprentices? If not, that is exactly my point. This movie is a lead life vest for Robin Williams, and frankly, I feel bad for him for having stooped so low. The writers should be ashamed of themselves. I feel sorry for the kid, too. His acting was pretty good, but his character was about as warm and fuzzy as the scary plastic-headed Burger King guy in the commercials. Ick.
I want to get this bad taste out of my mouth. I think I will go rent a funny Robin Williams movie (like Father's Day or the World According to Garp), listen to Mandy Moore's singing, or watch the Office, and remember that this movie was not the actor's faults.
If it is hotter than 100 degrees where you live, it is the only show in town, and you don't have air conditioning at home, I recommend seeing it. If not, go see Sicko - a much, much better film with great writing. |
