If you love food then you will have the patience for this movie. You have to bear with it as the story begins slowly. It develops slowly. In fact, if you are not very familliar with foreign flicks you probably will not have the patience for this movie. Also, if you think putting your Hungry Man dinner in the toaster oven instead of your microwave is slow cooking a meal...you won't get into this movie. So if that describes you don't watch it. In fact, stop reading this review. Put a bag of imitation-butter popcorn in your microwave and proceed directly back to the newest release page at ****.com and do a search for whatever is the biggest box office hit this weekend. That is all you will appreciate anyway.
For everyone else...
This is a beatifully filmed movie. Each character is developed so you feel like you knew them in your youth, years and years ago. If you enjoy cooking you will sop up all of the gourmand creativity and elegance that Babette plates for you. However, keep in mind you must endure every bit of waiting for the preparation and presentation of this feast...just as she had to.
Overall, a beautiful and delicious film. |
