Wag the Dog is a movie unrivaled in contemporary cinema. It is bitterlly sarcastic and hilariously funny. Presenting a not altogehter implausible scenario, it harshly ridicules the American political system. It rightly satires the press, as lacking investigative ambition, casting the media as quick to broadcast ready-made news from the White House. Finally, it casts an unflattering but truthful picture of the American public and the ease with which savvy politicans can manipulate public opinion. Following in the tradition of Catch 22, Wag the Dog presents a story that is over-the-top, but provokes thought about conventional wisdom and the status quo. |
