And it all boils down to...

Life. The wonderful eccentricities of this spontaneous subtext of existence. What can one expect from life but an eternity of butterflies and milk and honey? Nothing goes wrong, and everyone is going to live happily ever after. BULL.
Life's about choices - what NOT to take. It doesn't matter anyway, coz' whatever you chose, you're just going to come back to the same pathetic state that you've started off with. Nothing ever goes right, not even the microwave instructions on the back of the stupid pizza.
Trainspotting tells the candid story of an in-and-out drug addict through his eyes. We hear all the things he hears, all the things he thinks about, all the fear he faces, all the inassertiveness he goes through... it's like Being John Malkovich, only funnier.
Ewan McGregor soars in this film about choices. There would be no better person to make say "People hate the Brittish, but they're just wankers!" From the perky insults to the step-by-step guide to quitting heroin, McGregor makes every syllable count.
But what's a gem in a diamond mine? Accompanying McGregor is a cast of uber (well, sue me) peformers, Spud especially... Yeah, Spud.
Once again, Danny Boyle brings to screen his unique attention to perspectives; how best to paint the picture of the trails and tribulations of a drug addict? How about destroying him and all his friends as they all fall like ten-pins on their campaign to kick heroin? Hell, why don't you bring their squeaky-clean buddy down with them as well?
Drug, sex, violence. Not that hard a choice here is there?
And hey, let's face it - the toilet scence's worth 2 Oscars in a freakin' fruit basket. |
