I'd heard a lot about this film supposedly promoting drugs, but how is everyone rolling around on the floor, too high to care when a friend's baby dies promoting drugs? There were moments at the beginning when I felt the serious message of the film was being undermined by the humour, but then those are the most memorable moments of the film and highlight the increasingly serious nature of Rent's addiction. I wasn't sure about the toilet scene...was that a hillucination or not? Is it possible to slide down a toilet? Ewan McGreggor was perfect for this part and the film really changed my perceptions of drug addiction I used to think that if you wanted to quite you just did ...now I know it's a lot more complicated. |
