The Rage is pretty much an 'in name only' sequel to the 1976 Brian DePalma horror classic based on King's first bestseller and starring an excellent Sissy Spacek. Hard to follow in those footsteps and the main question you have to ask is : why bother to try? Is Hollywood out of fresh ideas? Apparently...note all of these old 70's movie remmakes and TV show inspired flicks coming to the big screen. This is really just a rehash of the first movie set in modern times and with the focus centered on a new tortured young lady. Of course this means more mean spirited antics and plentiful gore. However; the movie itself is made surprisingly well and stars Angela Bettis, a good young B-movie actress who is adept at playing somewhat unstable young ladies (she starred in the Oddball horror/comedy 'May').The acting overall is pretty good for this type of exploitation fare and we get a supporting role ( albeit, a thankless one) by Amy Irving who co-starred in the original.The movie is fast paced and rather ebtertaining but the super gory and horribly graphic climax is a big turn off. Still worth seeing. |
