I remember seeing this movie in the theatre in 98 and being skeptical about it. It looked like another poorly done action movie with no substance. I was very pleasantly surprised to be wrong in my initial opinion. This is a film that has a heart and is extremely entertaining. Banderas and Zeta Jones have amazing on screen chemistry and each of their encounters with each other always brought a smile to my face. Anthony Hopkins is great in any role he takes and this is no different. He brings a certain charisma and despair to the character of Diego. This is a tale of revenge, honour and love. It's a movie where the characters take centre stage as much as the action does; which I might also say is wonderful. Little to no special effects are in this film other than old fashioned stunt men and the results are perfect. If you want a film that is memorable will bring a smile to your face long after you've seen it, watch the Mask of Zorro. |
