This is the perfect way for the original crew to go out with a bang! It sets the stage for peace between the Federation and the Klingon Empire. But there are those on both sides who stand to lose from peace and therefore conspire to make sure peace doesn't come. Enter Captain James T. Kirk and crew as what starts as a diplomatic mission to escort the Chancellor of the Klingon High Council to Earth becomes a frenzy when the Chancellor is assassinated and Kirk and McCoy are accused arrested for the crime and sentenced to spend their lives on Rura Penthe. Well even though most have seen it, I still don't want to give too much away. Though I will say there is a spectacular showdown involving the Enterprise and a helping hand from Kirk's former helmsman turned Captain, Captain Sulu of the USS Excelsior. The use of quotes from Shakespeare by the Klingon General Chang brings about a unique perspective on the Klingons. We get a special appearance by the stunningly beautiful Iman who plays the shapeshifting Martia. All in all an excellent film and the perfect way for the entire original series cast to end their trek in Star Trek! It was a very nicely done comeback from the previous movie, Star Trek V: The Final Frontier. Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country deserves two thumbs up, way up! |
