When I saw the previews for Accepted, I thought, another rip off of Animal House and another crappy Van Wilder-like film. I was very wrong. This movie had some seriously funny moments and it had depth in it, which is uncommon for most comedies like it. Our main character, Bartleby Gaines (played by Justin Long) is a whiz kid when it comes to bypassing life's obstacles. But when he is rejected from all of the colleges he applied for, he seems to be in a tight spot. His parents are angry at him for not trying in school, and his kid sister, who's a genius, is loving every second of his misery. But B, as he is called by friends, pretends he gets accepted into a nonexistant school, called South Harmon Institute of Technology (notice it's called S.H.I.T.) his parents begin to believe their son is going to be a college boy. His plan begins to turn serious when he makes a website for the school, has to rent a building, and get a dean to prove the school existance to his folks. But as the school is made, the fake applications are put onto the site, and hundreds of kids enter this school. Suddenly, B is way over his head and finds fun and pain in his experience of running this school. This movie is a must for people who are 13-19 years old. Justin Long plays a great role, and should be cast in way more movies. The rest of the cast and script make it hilarious and a worthwhile film. Accepted makes a great splash in the summer's drought of good movies, and is highly reccomended. |
