Brian De Palma had already mastered the art of effectively making a suspense film. He came back to a genre he had previously conquered to make yet another nerve wrenching thriller. Nicolas Cage and Gary Sinise shine in this breathtaking mysery thriller about an assasination, a crooked Atlantic City Detective, a sadistic military commander, a beautiful damsel drenched in blood and at the core of it all a well executed conspiracy. Cage portrays our anti hero Rick Santoro who has to be a witness to a shattering truth hes doesn't want to believe. De Palma is a brilliant filmaker and it shines especially in the opening credits of this movie whic features an exteremely long and exteremely potent 15 minute shot of Cage giving you an unforgettable first impression of his Rick Santoro character. David Koepp wrote the screenpaly which means an awful lot about the quality of this film. |
