Amusing film ruined by hard-to-understand accent

John Hannah, the male lead, has such a hideously droning and irritating accent, that it's impossible to enjoy this movie to its full. He spoils every scene he's in with his excruciating delivery, ridiculous pronunciation, and extreme accent. Is he from the northern-most tip of the Scottish Highlands or something? Whoever chose him for this role needs his/her head examined, honestly! If Gwyneth Paltrow can do a convincing English accent, then why couldn't this fellow at least try to speak in a reasonable fashion, with or without a Scottish accent. I know plenty of Scots and they don't have this sort of whining pitch and tortured rapid-fire delivery. Awful. |
