Doesn't really leave you feeling satisfied

This, I might say, is just another cliché teen movie, where there's this popular jock guy who makes fun of an "ugly" girl but then later on the two falls in love. I mean the first time I saw the movie and saw the jocky guys make the bet I already knew pretty well what was gonna happen. Well except the part that she didn't win prom queen...but I still knew they were gonna fall in love and she would discover the secret and it's not really all of that...
The acting was not that great, and I felt Rachel Leigh Cook didn't really put that much effort into her own character, Laney. Also, it's really stupid that she would look pretty once you take out her glasses and let down her messy hair...Okay if anyone looks pretty they shouldn't make themselves ugly by wearing glasses and lame hairstyle like that in the first place. Ugly clothes I can understand but not what I just said in my last sentence!
Also, there are some scenes that were just plain weird, like the art performance of Laney or the character of Brock. And what's with the point of the black guy, Preston, who hangs out with Dean and Zack, who are both white, only to just stay out for most parts of the three's conversation and then butt in to say something for just like 2 seconds? It goes to show that the entertainment industry thinks that in real life, if there is a group of white people, there must be at least one black person in it. This is true in most commercials, where there can't be a white guy without his friend being black (Wendy's, McDonald's, Volkswagen etc.). I'm not being racist by making that statement but this movie just fell for that trap...
Well the final scene was, I think, the only funny scene in the entire movie, but I'm not gonna spoil it to the people who hadn't seen the movie. This movie was much more famous after "Not Another Teen Movie" made its plot based on it. And "Not Another Teen Movie" was much funnier and wasn't as serious as this movie. |
