The strength of this movie, aside from its absolutely brilliant acting, is the sheer excitement and intrigue involved in the game of poker (namely, Texas Hold 'Em). The production and direction of this film successfully capture the intensity and emotion of the game. Norton just never seems to give a dull performance, as he once again brings to life a perhaps otherwise played cliche-type character (see The Score, The Italian Job). Damon plays the lead role very well, and John Malkovich is sensational as the non-chalant Russian card shark.
If you're not a fan of poker, I'm still fairly confident you will enjoy this movie. If you are a fan of poker as I am, this is the poker movie you've been waiting for. |
