One of the Coen Brothers' Lesser Movies
by Brandon (movies profile)
Apr 21, 2008
The Coen Brothers are among the finest directors in cinema today. They are masters of dark comedy and creating convincing characters. If you think otherwise, go watch the Big Lebowski or Fargo and get back to me. Raising Arizona, however, is definitely one of their lesser movies.
The plot of Raising Arizona is simple yet quite endearing. Yet, it isn't entirely memorable. The acting, however, really is. Nicolas Cage has never been this good. Whoever plays that evil biker guy is also very noteworthy.
Overall, everyone--even the minor characters-- does a great job of bringing the world of this movie to life. It's not nearly as great as No Country for Old Men or The Big Lebowski, but I'd be lying if I said it wasn't enjoyable. |
