Remember, remakes are usually not as good...

I give this rating just for the sheer fact that it is a shot-by-shot remake of a horror classic. But, you have to admit, Vince Vaughn brings new life to Norman Bates. He seems younger, more innocent, but at the same time, he really does make the part creepier (no offense to Vince). Anthony Perkins will always be Norman Bates, yes, but he just was not as creepy. But, in some aspects, it helped the movie. You would not have realized that he was, in fact, the killer, or insane, for that matter. And Julianne Moore, who plays Marion Crane's sister, Lily (I think that's her name), gives the character, not fear, but persistance. In the original, Lily can be seen crying, wanting to follow Sam Loomis (Marion's boyfriend) to find Marion. In the remake, Lily pushes to go with, ending the scene with a confident "Let me just grab my Walkman." I know many people have problems with remaking a great movie such as "Psycho", but I personally believe that this is the best remake of a classic I have seen in a long time. (Defiently out-ranking the numerous "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" movies.) |
