As everyone knows this is a remake of Alfred Hitchcock's black and white classic, Psycho (1960). I wasn't aware of it when I watched it. I watched the remake Psycho (1998) before watching the original classic. So I had nothing to compare it with. As it turns out, I regard it as an average thriller. Sadly I am very disappointed with the acting. The beauty Anne Heche is amazing and so is Julianne Moore, but Vince Vaugn is much below par (No offence to Vince please). The idea was to present Psycho in color, for people don't like black and white stuff.
Anyway, after watching the original a few months back, I realised why Hitchcock is considered as a genius. He's without any doubt the best director ever. Many people don't know that the original Psycho was purposely shot in black and white. In fact, Hitchcock had made several color films before that so the reason wasn't technology or budget. He knew it wouldn't make an impact in color and he was absolutely sopt on ! Shadows make a better effect in color. And there were several other directorial aspects to it. The house looks more sinister in black and white. The original classic is a must see for everyone. |
