I'm certainly not a Carey fanboy or anything, he actually annoys me most of the time. In Man on the Moon, we don't see the usual Carey, but get an actor and romancer (Truman Show was a similar performance). Carey truly fits this role, and were anyone else asked to be Andy kaufman, I'd have probably left the theater 3 minutes in. As for Kaufman, I can't say I agree with the method or meaning, but the story's worthy of my time and sheer thrill of watching his next mood unfold on film. Sadly, I was very young at the time Kaufman was most popular, so I only seen his Taxi reruns and his guest appearances on various talk shows (as seen on Comedy Central). I cannot vouch for the film's accuracy, but even if taken as a story of a "madman with purpose," it's worth anyone's time to watch. Oh, and it's usually funny to boot! |
