One of the greatest films of the 1990s (that's for sure)!
It rarely happens that one can witness outstanding performances of all actors in one film especially when it is a thriller... This one is a definite must see for fans of fine acting and a good gripping story!

Set in the 1950s we look into the lives of some very different people in L.A.
First of all we've got Officer Bud White (Crowe) using (and maybe abusing?) his badge to hunt down violent husbands that beat up their wives. White somehow gets entangled in the corrupt game of his LAPD superior Captain Dudley Smith (Cromwell).
Then we've got Sgt. Jack "Big V" Vincennes (Spacey) who has more fun being the technical advisor for a TV series rather than being a cop. He really struggles to get his life straight again. Is it the fame and fortune on TV and in the tabloid magazines he wants or is it being a cop after all?
Lieutenant Ed Exley(Pearce) is an eager and young member of staff at the Hollywood police station who gives everything to end the corruption and violence inside the police forces but not without getting his fair share and the promotions he wants in a way that sometimes comes close to blackmail.
Then, of course, we've got Kim Basinger as Lynn Bracken a high class call girl.
There is also the murder at the "Night Owl" and the first tabloid, the "Hush Hush Magazine". And not to forget Rollo Tormasi...

For about 2 hours the plot twists grippingly back and forth until it all ends in a fantastic showdown at the "Victory Hotel".

Okay, Jack Nicholson was great in "As Good As It Gets" but it is definitely Russel Crowe who would have deserved the Oscar for his outstanding performance as Bud White in "L.A. Confidential"!!!
