Definitely one of the best films of the year! I didn't know what to expect with this film when I went to see it, but I was pleasantly surprised to see that it was not filled with explicit gay sex scenes as I had anticipated. There were some love scenes between Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger, but they were tastefully done and not something that would gross everyone out. The story is rich and beautifully written as it explores the lives of two young cowboys who eventually discover they have deep feelings for each other and seek to expand their friendship over a 20 year period. Everyone does a good job in this flick and I've heard that there is Oscar buzz around Mr. Ledger's performance and it's well-deserved. And Jake is just simply eye-candy for the ladies, as always! LOL But for obvious reasons this is a mature, adults-only film and I don't recommend it for everyone. It doesn't encourage or promote homosexuality in any way. In fact, the main characters do NOT live happily ever after. Rather the film depicts their heartaches and struggles in living with their passions for each other! I'll say this again....definitely one of the year's best and it will probably win some Oscars!! |
